In Mexico, there is a real treasure that, even when it hasn't achieved worldwide fame, is very popular locally. That's right, we are talking about the Mexican drink michelada.

If you still haven't tried it, we'll tell you what it's all about and most importantly… how to make a michelada. It is not only a refreshing drink for any season but it is also considered an excellent hangover remedy.

The michelada recipe is also based on tomato juice, but in this version, it is mixed with beer and other ingredients. We will share this with you so you can learn the best michelada recipe.

No doubt it will become your favorite beer cocktails to enjoy at the beach, in the afternoon with friends, or, why not, at brunch.

But what is a michelada drink?

If you still don't know what a michelada drink is. We can tell you that it is a cocktail based on beer and tomato juice, seasoned with spices and different sauces, usually served in a frosted glass with lemon, tajín, and salt.

What are the Michelada ingredients?

  • 1 cup Clamato
  • ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon soy sauce
  • Hot sauce (optional)
  • 1 beer
  • 2 lemons
  • Ice
  • Salt, Tajín, or chili powder for garnish

How to make a Michelada?

  1. Prepare a mixture of salt and tajin or chili powder on a plate. Prepare your glass, run a lime around the glass rim, and then place it on top of the salt and tajin mixture, the idea is that the rim of the glass gets covered with frost. 
  2. Add ice to your liking inside the glass.
  3. Once your glass is ready, mix the clamato with the sauces, and try to fill it only halfway.
  4. Top off with beer and mix carefully.

Now if you are ready to try, remember to experiment with ingredients of your preference, acid, and spicy flavors always go well with the mixture, and little by little you will discover the best michelada recipe to enjoy.
